" Rohrabacher is in lockstep with Trump’s inhumane politics. OC needs to value its citizens, especially immigrants and people of color."
The 48th district spans the beautiful southern California coast from Seal Beach to Huntington Beach to Laguna Beach and beyond. It is made of a diverse population that represents the changing demographics of Orange County. In the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton won this district by 2%. About 32,700 veterans live in this district, as well as approximately 68,200 people who are living with disabilities. A quarter of District 48’s population is made up of immigrants, 3,700 of whom are “Dreamers” — undocumented Californians who were brought to the U.S. from another country when they were young children. According to recent polling, these “Dreamers” are supported by 66% of residents who don’t want to see them deported and torn apart from their families in the only country they’ve ever known. The people in this area see housing costs and homelessness as some of the biggest issues they and their neighbors are facing — an issue which has not been taken seriously by Rep. Rohrabacher.
A majority of residents in this area also support the Affordable Care Act (of which 80,000 receive health care through), while opposing Trump’s divisive border wall and his plan to drill off of California’s coast. Rep. Rohrabacher has consistently voted against them on these issues.
District 48 is comprised of Seal Beach, Sunset Beach, Surfside, Corona del Mar, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Aliso Viejo, Newport Coast, Newport Beach, Laguna Niguel, Fountain Valley and portions of Midway City, Westminster, Santa Ana, and Garden Grove. By demographic, 56% are white, 21% are Latinx, and 18% are Asian or Pacific Islander.
" As a gay black person, I fight to be considered human and prove my life matters. I’m tired of Rohrabacher sowing hate and fear."
" I lost my sister to the Las Vegas mass shooting. We need representatives that will create better laws, especially around background checks."

More on Dana Rohrabacher
Rep. Rohrabacher’s time in office has had devastating effects on day-to-day life for his constituents in Orange County.
A majority of Orange County residents oppose repealing current health care law. But that didn’t matter to Rep. Rohrabacher who voted for Trumpcare which would have significantly increased the cost of insurance for almost everyone and kicked millions off their current coverage. He has also strongly supported offshore drilling, which is not be surprising once you learn that he has accepted almost $100,000 from oil and gas companies since he’s been in office. His constituents, on the other hand, largely oppose such drilling.
Immigration is another issue where he and his constituents disagree. Sixty-six percent of District 48 residents support providing legal status to people brought to the United States as children — people referred to as “Dreamers” who are currently protected from deportation. There are 3,700 Dreamers in Rohrabacher’s district, but he applauded Trump’s decision to send them back to countries they have never truly known. A majority of residents also oppose the border wall, but Rohrabacher has other plans. He introduced a bill that would only allow wealthy immigrants into the United States, charging them $1 million for a visa. This money would then be used to build Trump’s border wall. A quarter of his constituents were not born in the United States.
The NRA has given Rep. Rohrabacher a score of A for standing with them in policy matters. He has used that deadly partnership to oppose common sense gun safety legislation that could have helped prevent the Las Vegas massacre — including the deaths of some of his own constituents in the violence. After the massacre, Rohrabacher refused to even release a statement.
A recent study found that about 55% of Orange County residents see rising housing costs as a major issue, and many have considered moving out of the area altogether. Homelessness is also a major local concern. In a reaction to a recent push to provide services to people who are homeless and mentally ill, he said, “This is exactly the wrong thing to do… by feeding them and giving them housing you’re taking away the pressure on them to make good decisions in their lives.” He’s no better when it comes to fixing housing costs. Rohrabacher stated that capping the mortgage interest deduction at $500,000 was “pretty irrelevant as a political issue” even though it will penalize his own constituents. Eighty percent of the homes in his district are sold for more than $500,000. In the meantime, he has taken over $600,000 from the real estate industry throughout his time in office.
Rohrabacher’s failures in representing District 48 are endless. There are about 33,000 veterans living in his district but he voted for Trumpcare which would have taken away their tax credits. He voted to gut the Americans with Disability Act, setting rights for people living with disabilities back decades and making it more difficult to make businesses create accommodations for them. Over 68,000 of his constituents are people living with disabilities. Not to mention his nickname: Putin’s favorite congressman. He’s earned it by supporting cooperation with Russia on a number of issues, and claiming that the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election were “bogus charges” and part of a “conspiracy theory.”
Rep. Rohrabacher is deeply out of sync with his constituents, and he’s shown no signs of changing. Join us in flipping his seat and giving the residents of Orange County the representative they deserve.
