- Voted to dramatically increase the cost of insurance and kick millions off health care by supporting Trumpcare
- Applauded Trump's decision to deport Dreamers to a country they’ve never known, even though about 3,700 of his constituents are Dreamers
- NRA score of A for opposing gun safety legislation that could have helped prevent his constituents’ deaths in the Las Vegas massacre
Rep. Rohrabacher’s time in office has had devastating effects on day-to-day life for his constituents in Orange County. Here’s a snapshot of how he has been misrepresenting them:
Health Care: Almost 80,000 residents of Rohrabacher’s district receive health care thanks to the Affordable Care Act and support it, but he voted for Trumpcare which would have increased the cost of insurance and kicked millions off their current coverage.
Immigration: Sixty-six percent of Rohrabacher’s constituents support providing legal status to Dreamers — 3,700 of whom live in his district — but he applauded Trump’s decision to deport them to countries they have never known. Most residents also oppose the border wall, but Rohrabacher supports it.
Gun Safety: The NRA gives Rohrabacher an A. He uses that deadly partnership to oppose common sense gun safety legislation that could have helped prevent the Las Vegas massacre — including the deaths of some of his own constituents. After the massacre, Rohrabacher refused to even release a statement.
Housing: Orange County residents see rising housing costs and homelessness as major issues. In reaction to a push to provide services to people who are homeless, Rohrabacher said, “This is exactly the wrong thing to do… by feeding them and giving them housing you’re taking away the pressure on them to make good decisions.” He also stated that capping the mortgage interest deduction at $500,000 was “pretty irrelevant as a political issue,” even though it will penalize his constituents.
Environment: He has also strongly supported offshore drilling that would represent an existential threat to California’s beaches — while (shocker!) accepting almost $100,000 from oil and gas companies. His constituents largely oppose such drilling.
Russia: Rohrabacher’s nickname? Putin’s favorite congressman. He claims that the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election is made up of “bogus charges” and part of a “conspiracy theory.”
Rohrabacher is out of sync with his constituents and has shown no signs of changing. Help us win back his seat and give the residents of Orange County the representative they — and the rest of the country — deserve.
